Lawrence M. Mickle, Jr.

Safety Specialist

Larry Mickle has a B.S. in Safety and Environmental Management from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania.  Prior to joining Safex, Larry completed an internship with the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Division of Environmental Health and Public Safety, and he was a health and safety supervisor for an industrial environmental services company.  His prior experience includes site safety audits, incident investigations, confined space and hot work permits preparation, confined space entry supervision, and respirator fit testing. Larry has also been responsible for verifying implementation of proper equipment specific lockout/tagout procedures prior to confined space entries.  In addition, he led and presented various health and safety training programs and facilitated safety committee meetings.
 
Larry has been with Safex since 2001 and has provided safety support for construction, manufacturing and remediation companies. He is the project lead on a 4 year project requiring weekly site inspections on more than 50 new school constructions, renovation and demolition projects. In addition, Larry provides ongoing site safety support and conducts safety site inspections for various contractors and subcontractors. Larry has been a Knox County Safety Council Steering Committee board member for the past seven years. He is a chairman on the academic scholarships and work place safety grant programs. He conducts company specific safety training, site specific safety plans and on-site safety audits.  Larry’s training experience includes emergency response, SCBA use, decontamination procedures, 40-hour hazardous waste operations training, scaffolding, fall protection and confined space entry and rescue.  He is an authorized instructor for the OSHA 10 & 30 Hour Construction Outreach Courses.
 
Prior to beginning his safety career, Larry was Assistant Fire Chief of Linesville Fire Department, Pennsylvania and was responsible for leading firefighters during fire suppression.  He holds Pennsylvania Firefighter I and II certifications and is a Vehicle Rescue Technician.
 
Larry has completed the OSHA 40-Hour Health and Safety Training for Hazardous Waste Operations and is current with his 8-Hour Refresher.  Professional development courses have included electrical safety, scaffolding, confined space training, trenching / excavation and ASP/CSP review course.
