Protect Hearing. Improve Focus. Stay Compliant.

High noise levels isn’t just a compliance issue. It’s a well-being issue. Safex helps you understand, measure, and control workplace noise to keep your team safe and focused.

Why Workplace Noise Monitoring Matters

Noise is one of the most common and overlooked workplace hazards. Long-term exposure can cause permanent hearing loss, fatigue, and reduced concentration. But it’s also one of the easiest hazards to control once you have the right data.

Safex’s industrial hygienists help identify where noise exposure is happening, evaluate exposure and identify risks to create practical solutions that protect your people while maintaining productivity.

Our Noise Monitoring Services

Personal Noise Monitoring

We measure the noise exposure that individual employees experience during their typical workday. This data helps determine whether exposure exceeds OSHA’s permissible limits, and if hearing protection or process changes are needed.

Area Noise Monitoring

Sometimes, it’s the work environment that needs attention. Area monitoring identifies noisy zones, equipment, or processes that may pose risks to multiple workers. Our team uses these results to help you prioritize engineering and administrative controls.

Understanding OSHA Noise Exposure Requirements

OSHA’s Occupational Noise Exposure Standard (29 CFR 1910.95) requires employers to evaluate workplace noise and take action when sound levels reach or exceed 85 decibels over an 8-hour shift.

That means:

  • Regular Monitoring of noise exposure levels.
  • Implementation of a hearing conservation program when exposures exceed limits.
  • Availability of hearing protection and employee training.
  • Annual audiometric testing for affected employees (Safex can guide you, but we do not conduct the testing itself).

Safex can help you interpret the data, understand what it means for your specific operations, and ensure your compliance program is both effective and employee-friendly.

Customized Hearing Conservation Program Support

Every workplace is different, and so is every noise source. Safex designs and implements hearing conservation programs tailored to your environment, culture, and workforce.
Our support includes:

  • Noise monitoring and mapping
  • Selection and training on hearing protection devices (HPDs)
  • Employee education on hearing health
  • Written program development and documentation
  • Annual refresher training and program review

And because we customize every service at no extra cost, your hearing conservation program fits your operations, not the other way around.

Our Process: How a Noise Assessment Works

1. Consultation

We start by learning about your facility, equipment, and employee concerns to plan a focused and efficient assessment.

2. Measurement

Using calibrated noise dosimeters and sound level meters, our team collects data over a full shift or targeted period.

3. Analysis

We compare results to OSHA and/or ACGIH exposure limits and identify any problem areas.

4. Reporting

You’ll receive a clear, easy-to-understand report outlining findings, recommendations, and compliance status.

5. Follow-Up

We’ll follow-up with your team to review results, discuss next steps, and support any program updates or employee training needed.

FAQ

How often should noise monitoring be done?

Industry best practice is reevaluating noise exposure whenever equipment, processes, or work schedules change — or at least every two years.

Not necessarily. We’ll help identify which roles or tasks are most at risk and design a monitoring plan that fits your operations.

Absolutely. We’ll match hearing protection devices (HPDs) to your noise levels, comfort needs, and employee preferences.

We’ll work with you to develop an action plan from engineering controls to training and PPE to reduce exposure and meet OSHA standards.
